A Design Built on Collaboration

Set against a rugged coastal backdrop, Cedar Point is a multigenerational family home that celebrates craftsmanship, connection, and place. Led by Patti Watson and Design Director Julia Reinalda, the team at Taste Design partnered with architect Alec Tesa and builder Kirby Construction to create a home that feels timeless, quietly innovative, and deeply rooted in its site.

The Great Room sets the tone for the entire home. Its vaulted ceiling, creamy trim, and mahogany detailing frame sweeping coastal views, immediately establishing the home’s sense of place. A warm, subtle palette allows natural light and fine materials to take center stage, setting a foundation of calm and continuity.

The clients sought a nod to traditional maritime design, which we wove subtly throughout the first and second floors.

Embracing Architectural Complexity

With unique architecture full of unexpected angles, shapes, and interactions, achieving seamless integration of design and functionality required innovative thinking.

For example, we concealed structural steel above the kitchen banquet area by designing a nautically inspired soffit box, turning a design challenge into a featured element.

Collaborative efforts with experts in carpentry and fabrication ensured that every unique space not only met the client’s high aesthetic standards but also served its functional purpose.

Innovative Smart Home Technology

At Cedar Point, technology is integrated into the interior architecture, elevating convenience without disrupting aesthetic integrity.

Roll screens tuck into custom crown soffits above draperies. Framed shade pockets are embedded within window casings for clean lines and uninterrupted ocean views.

In select rooms, televisions vanish behind moving art screens powered by patented magnetic tensioning systems. In others, they rise from beneath the floorboards or emerge from within the mirrors of en suite baths. Elsewhere, bespoke furniture conceals entertainment systems that are revealed with the touch of a button.

Elevated Daily Rituals

In the bathrooms, luxury is reimagined with thoughtful, bespoke detail. Smart glass windows transform from clear to frosted, allowing for uninterrupted views or total privacy.

Custom copper soaking tubs were handcrafted to replicate a discontinued model the client had long admired. Patti replicated the original, traveling to Colorado to partner with a fabricator who could bring the vision to life.

Even the ritual of drawing a bath is elevated: the home’s automation system allows tubs to be filled remotely, with auto-stop programming that ensures the perfect experience.

Here, innovation and luxury work in tandem, elevating everyday moments.

The Highest Level of Craftsmanship

On the lower level, the design leans into the client’s vision for refined, sophisticated nautical references. The lower-level home theater was conceived and built to mimic the interior of a classic yacht.

Langan Design Partners, a Newport yacht design firm, was hired to help develop the concept, and partnered in a remarkable collaboration with Newport Yacht Builders, who were commissioned to build the theater in true yacht fashion. The project exemplifies an expertise in the design process and a reverence for craftsmanship at its highest level.

Throughout the home, the fingerprint of exceptional craftsmanship is unmistakable. Every detail, from custom millwork to tailored finishes, reflects the dedication of artisans and makers at the top of their craft.
