As designers, Team Taste gets the opportunity to discover and work with artisans worldwide to create one-of-a-kind pieces for our clients. Recently, we found ourselves in search of a console with a unique combination of features for the House of Taste. The project took us from California all the way to Turkey.

We started with one of our favorite makers, based in Encinitas, California. Paul and Jenn are a husband-and-wife duo who founded and lead Liven UP Design.  Together they create ‘lively, custom-built, UPholstered and grasscloth wrapped furniture.’ Both grew up immersed in different areas of expertise – Jenn in upholstery under the tutelage of her mother and Paul in woodworking, absorbing his grandfather’s guidance. Jenn initially started the business refurbishing furniture, and Paul soon joined her in their garage. Liven UP has grown over time and now operates out of Oceanside to create high-end, handmade furniture.

Liven Up’s collection of furnishings includes console tables, designed by Paul.  We started there and worked with Paul to customize and accommodate a television lift for client presentations.  Because we can’t stop short, we added a bit of shimmer and with New York-based Cowtan and Tout’s grasscloth – expertly applied by Jenn and laid out in a mitered pattern across the front doors.

All that was left to do was add a bit of jewelry with custom brass ferrules. Jenn and Paul recommended Metal Furniture Parts, an Etsy shop based in Istanbul that produces bespoke metal designs. Ozzie, the owner of Metal Furniture Parts, crafted beautiful brass ferrules for the legs of our media console.

Our thanks to Liven Up for helping to create a beautiful and functional piece for the House of Taste. We look forward to showing clients their personalized designs on the widescreen television that will lift from our custom console table.
