With their primary home in Ridgefield, Connecticut, our clients turned to Taste once again after designing their Newport, Rhode Island home over thirteen years ago.
Newly retired, they said goodbye to Ridgefield’s quiet suburbs and hello to Main Street in the village - opting for the convenience of in-town living and amenities.
Their choice to be in town came with historic significance, too. Originally built as a tavern in the 1700s, the new/old house had been recently reworked and upgraded, but lacked the personalization our clients are accustomed to in their Newport home.
We were thrilled to find architectural assets present in the house, including original stone, fireplaces and structural timbers. Taking our cues from these natural materials - and from our clients’ casually elegant style - we created an interior that feels like the elegance of cashmere paired with your favorite jeans.
Appointed for Entertaining
True to historic New England dwellings, the small scale of the rooms and low ceiling heights created our greatest challenge. Striking the right scale of furnishings and lighting while achieving our clients’ hosting goals was a priority. When furnishings with storage weren’t an option, we created functional built-ins tucked into sweet spaces.
Custom furnishings and great art finished the entertaining spaces, enabling our clients to be welcoming and gracious hosts. When not gathering with family and friends, private and restful areas support the couple’s time together as they embrace the next stage of their life.
Now just steps away from the lively Ridgefield cultural scene, our clients love sitting on their front porch in the summer, taking in the weekly band concerts in the park across the street, or hosting friends for a cocktail. New England living at its best.
