Serene, Casual & Comfortable:

Designed for Family Living

With roots in Rhode Island, our clients chose Little Compton for their first-ever summer home. The sweet, simple house they selected was idyllic in all ways but the main living spaces. We developed a space plan for them that opened up the kitchen, created a more private master bedroom and office space, and maximized seating. Today our clients love hosting family gatherings in the new space – and proudly reported they could fit 12-16 people comfortably.

We’d worked with the clients on a previous home, which meant we started this project with a high confidence level already established. As a result the homeowner felt very free to express what she wanted from the Modern Beach House: an easy place where everyone could relax – including her. This manifested in so many design details, from the open shelving in the kitchen which makes it easy for people to serve themselves to the one of a kind commissioned artwork that hangs in the lower level family room featuring the family’s summer footwear – Dad’s boat shoes, Mom’s sandals, and the kids’ flip flops.

Key Takeaways:

Lessons Learned from the Modern Beach House

A good, better, best approach to decision making results in beautiful spaces on a reasonable budget. Maximizing investments is easier with design leadership and guidance.

Create a private office area in the home is especially helpful to young executives when they decide to work from the summer house on Fridays. When the summer house is done well, this happens more frequently than our clients first imagined.
